LATE HIGH CHIEF AKINOLA OLAFISOYE LAID TO REST IN GRAND STYLE

By Adelanke Akinmoladun

In what could best be described as a carnival-like event, the remains of Late High Chief Akinola Olafisoye, the Logbosere of Idanre Kingdom, who passed on after a brief illness, were laid to rest on April 10, 2026 at his residence in Yaba, Odode, Idanre.

On the penultimate day of the burial rites, his remains were conveyed by De Proof Funeral Services from Bell Mortuary, Akure, in a grand motorcade. The procession featured an elaborately decorated cart, an uncommon sight in the community, as it moved to Ola B Event Centre, Opa, Idanre, where lying-in-state and wake services were held. The ceremony reflected the desire of his children to give their late father a befitting burial.

Tributes poured in from children, family members, and members of the public, all attesting to the impactful life of the late patriarch and his contributions to both his family and the community.

The funeral service, held at St. Paul’s Anglican Cathedral Church, attracted a large congregation. Delivering the sermon, Ven. Blessing Aregbesola described the late High Chief as disciplined, strong, visionary, and hardworking. He urged attendees to live impactful lives, emphasizing that death brings an end to human plans and aspirations.

Thereafter, the remains were interred at his residence along Technical Road, Yaba, Odode, Idanre.

The reception at the Olofin Anglican Grammar School playing field was lively, as thousands of guests were entertained under various tents, including marquee and mosaic setups. Notable musicians from different parts of the country performed across the venue.

At the marquee hosted by Mr. Bunmi Olafisoye, Mr. Sola Olafisoye, and Mrs. Fike Akindeko, Dr. Adewale Ayuba and his band thrilled guests, while a variety of delicacies, drinks, and wines were served, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.

Dignitaries at the event included Dr. Omotayo Dairo, Chief Dr. Kola Ademujimi, Hon. Barr. Smart Omotadowa, members of Royal Club, Idanre, members of Great Mates, Idanre, Prince Babatope Aroloye, High Chief Akinfolarin (the Yeyelobun of Idanre Land), Mr. Felix Ajidagba, Mrs. Yemisi Oyawale, Hon Mayokun Akinmoladun, Dr Dokun Dairo, King Solomon Akinwole, Mrs Ronke Kone Akinkuowo, Mr Adeniyi Akinseye, Mr Olatunji “Guba,” Mr. Omololu Omotadowa, Hon. Akinfala Felix, among others.

The burial ceremony went beyond a customary farewell, serving as a reminder that those who raise their children well are often honored with befitting send-offs.
