In a momentous town hall meeting held on 5th January, 2024 at Owa’s Palace, Odode Idanre, Honorable Festus Olanrewaju Akingbaso, the esteemed Member House of Representatives Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency, shared a comprehensive account of his six months in office, shedding light on notable achievements and unveiling ambitious plans for the future.
During the presentation, Hon. Akingbaso underscored the strides made in various sectors, ranging from securing 3 federal job employment for the youths, assured legislation on ICT University, distribution of educational materials to thousands of student, organized free summer lessons for students in secondary schools, employed 100 Aides as against the 5 recommended with a view to providing job opportunities and receiving feedback from the constituents, promised to supply electric transformers to boost power in Idanre and Ifedore .
Hon. Akingbaso had also intervened in reducing the sufferings of road users by providing immediate palliative measures to lessen their hardships, construction of dilapidated bridge at Owena Ayetoro, assisted the newly created LCDAs with the sum of twenty million naira (#20,000,000) to facilitate their take off in the two local governments, distribution of a quantum of cocoa seedlings to farmers to boost their agricultural produce and many more.
However, a pivotal moment in the address was the update of an ongoing legislative proposal – a bill aimed at establishing an ICT University within the federal constituency.
Speaking earlier, Dr. Omotayo Dairo, Dr. kola Ademujimi and Mr. Adekunle Akinlalu who are PDP leaders had described Hon. Akingbaso as a pacemaker in Idanre political landscape whose rise and prominence could be likened to the likes of Late High Chief Gabriel Akindeko. He noted the step taken by the lawmaker as a prove of a good representation for his constituents.
Chief Dr. Anthony Omolola, the President General of Idanre Development Assembly (IDA) and his deputy, Engr Benson Ajisegiri commended the efforts of Hon. Akingbaso on bill for the establishment of ICT university in Idanre land and suggested for an amendment in the bill to be University of ICT and Tourism as Idanre is blessed with amazing things to behold.
Reacting, Chief Claudius Ademehintoye appreciated the efforts of the parliamentarian for his giant stride and pleaded that he should help on the roads leading to farm settlements where goods are brought to town.
Also speaking on behalf of traditional worshippers, High Chief Ojo Alebiosu noted Idanre is known for traditional worship hence the need to place more priority on it as he seek assistance to build a hall for them.
Alfa Shirul Alowonle, thanked Hon. Akingbaso and pleaded for the completion of their Eid praying ground and also with attention to their Quranic institutions.
Rev’d Babatunde Akinkuehin, Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Idanre sought assistance for pilgrimage to Isreal and also for completion of CAN building in Idanre.
High Chief MacDonald Akinsowon, the Regent of Alade Idanre called for the upgrade of Alade/Atosin Police Station and ICT centre well equipped to be used for Jamb CBT for candidates in Idanre.
His Royal Highness, Oba Gilbert Ogunlowo, the Awosunye of Atosin Idanre advised the Lawmaker to also press for the establishment of a College of Education which the late Governor Akeredolu said he would consider for Idanre.
His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr) Frederick Aroloye, the Owa of Idanre Kingdom and paramount ruler of Idanre land thanked Hon. Akingbaso for his giant strides in Idanre and that his efforts to the establishment of ICT University was most pleasant to him.
